A classic model that also reflects state-of-the-art in such important fields as fuel economy and emissions – thanks to BlueTEC BlueEFFICIENCY technology. With it the Vario meets Euro V emissions standards with the engines are optimised simultaneously with regard to performance and fuel economy.
At Mercedes-Benz Trucks this technology has been in the passing lane since 2005 already. And the exhaust after-treatment process SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) also reduces NOX emissions in the Vario with its high-capacity diesel engines by routing the exhaust gases through a catalyst where they are mixed with the water-based AdBlue® additive. During this process nitrous oxides are converted into nitrogen and water. The result is compliance with the strict emission standards .
Incidentally, in everyday the only indication that you have BlueTEC, one of the most advanced exhaust gas technologies, on board is the separate filler neck for the AdBlue® additive. It is situated in the direct vicinity of the fuel filler neck. While the diesel fuel flows into the tank, AdBlue® additive is poured into the SCR tank – no extra time being required for this. Its 18-litre volume ensures that AdBlue® only has to be added about every third time the tank is filled up with diesel fuel.
