The very first partially electric drive system in the S-Class

The S 400 HYBRID[4] sets new benchmarks when it comes to combining dynamism with low emissions, and proves that saving on fuel does not mean sacrifices elsewhere. Its combined drive system, comprising a powerful 6-cylinder petrol engine and a torquey electric motor, works economically and ecologically.

  • Technical innovations: with its optimised aerodynamics, kinetic energy recuperation, low rolling-resistance tyres, reduced consumption and CO2 emissions, this S-Class is one of the most efficient luxury saloons in the world
  • No sacrifices: the S 400 HYBRID offers the customary Mercedes-Benz ride comfort, unchanged boot capacity, a luxurious ambience in the interior and increased responsiveness
  • No loss of power: the combined drive system based on internal combustion engine and electric motor delivers 205 + 15 kW and with its torque of up to 385 Newton-metres, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.2 seconds on its way to its top speed of 250 km/h. The boost function enables the power of both power units to be briefly used simultaneously when accelerating.
  • Innovative power supply: the electric motor is fed by a lithium ion battery.
  • Total control: the battery is also fed by the recuperative brake system when the vehicle brakes. A hybrid display in the instrument cluster and in the COMAND-display show the current status of energy flow from the electric motor and/or the internal combustion engine.
