Cutting-edge technology you can put to use off-road: the GL petrol engines are unparalleled in their market segment - which should come as no surprise, as their output and consumption figures are outstanding.

8-cylinder petrol engines

A drive in the GL is always special, particularly if it's in one of the 8-cylinder petrol engine models. These engines can justifiably boast effortless power and smooth running characteristics. There are two powerful and appropriately environmentally compatible petrol engines to choose from.

You can choose between the GL 450 4MATIC and GL 500 4MATIC models.

  • Compelling performance: the GL 450 4MATIC has an output of 250 kilowatts and maximum torque of 460 Newton metres; the GL 500 4MATIC achieves 285 kilowatts at a maximum torque of 530 Newton metres.
  • Intelligent manufacturing: the reasons for the high output - yet low consumption and emissions - include the use of lightweight materials such as magnesium, which is also used in motorsport; the optimised air supply; and the fact there are four valves per cylinder.
  • Outstanding engineering: the aluminium and forged steel lightweight construction operates with special shifting camshafts, which optimise the gas cycles in the engine, thereby giving greater smoothness and higher torque.
  • Reduced emissions: both petrol engines comply with the Euro 5 consumption and emission limit values.
