Engine, transmission and rear axle – the drive system components for the Tourismo all come from the same source and are perfectly aligned to each other. The very latest state-of-the-art six-cylinder in-line engines are hard at work in the rear. With 7.7 l and 10.7 l displacement, they are compact but still very powerful. Depending on the model, output ranges from 260 kW (354 hp) to 315 kW (428 hp). In real-life working conditions, the excellent elasticity and powerful acceleration of the engine even at low engine speeds are particularly important. The driver benefits from the outstanding engine performance, the organisation from low fuel consumption, from its great reliability and from the long maintenance intervals - and the passengers from its smooth ride.
Power transmission in the standard version of the Tourismo is delivered by a manual transmission system produced in-house. But companies are also welcome to opt for the fully-automated Mercedes-Benz GO 250-8 PowerShift eight-speed transmission system. This transmission, specially developed for bus and coach vehicles, is highly regarded for its perfect transmission tuning as well as for the shift changing, which is as smooth as it is fast. This takes the strain off both the driver as well as the drive system and its clutch.
