The Citaro, the world's best-selling regular-service urban bus, was pre-eminent at the Mercedes-Benz stand at the UITP Congress in Geneva from 26 – 29. May 2013 The Citaro takes to the stage at the World Congress for transport operators as the first regular-service bus to offer a complete range of Euro VI-compliant versions. While the Citaro demonstrates the excellent progress made in diesel engine development, a Citaro FuelCELL Hybrid on the open-air part of the site serves to demonstrate the pioneering role of Mercedes-Benz in the development of alternative drive systems. However, Daimler AG takes a fully comprehensive view of inner-city transport At the UITP Congress this was evidenced by the presence of a smart electric bike and an electric-drive locally emission-free smart fortwo.Amongst other things, this provides a platform for networking public with private means of transport in the form of innovative systems such as car2go.
The 60th UITP World Congress, which is held every second year, is the leading event in the international public transport and mobility sector. Concurrently with the World Congress, an exhibition took place: "Mobility and City Transport Exhibition". This year in Geneva it was successfully shown that networked mobility is gaining ground. Over 2000 participants from 78 countries took part in the congress and more than 25,000 visitors, (planners and decision-makers in transport projects) were counted at the exhibition.
