Stuttgart – The Mercedes-Benz star will be even more prevalent in the streets of Singapore.Because Daimler Buses has secured another major order from the city state and from autumn 2012 through the end of 2015 will deliver a total of 450 Mercedes-Benz Citaro urban buses to South-East Asia. The customer for the vehicles is transit services company SBS Transit, responsible for the majority of public bus transport in the metropolis of 5 million souls.
In April 2011 SBS Transit had placed an initial order for 300 Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses, the last units of which are being delivered at this time. Like the vehicles of the initial order, the additional 450 Mercedes-Benz Citaro urban buses also meet Euro V emission standards. All vehicles are built at the EvoBus plant in Mannheim and will see duty in Singapore's city traffic. This order is the largest for Citaro urban buses from Asia to date.
With production figures of around 33,000 units in about 13 years, the Citaro is the most successful urban bus ever built.Nowadays there is a new edition of the best-seller. In May 2012 the first Mercedes-Benz Citaro that meets Euro VI emission limits as standard rolled off the assembly line at the Mannheim plant. It is the cleanest diesel-powered transit bus.
