Stuttgart/Cologne – Mercedes-Benz is showcasing four vehicles from its broad range of buses and touring coaches at the Mercedes-Benz exhibition area (Hall 10.1, Stand D 46): the established Mercedes-Benz Tourino and, making their first appearance in exhibition, the new generation Safety Coach Mercedes-Benz Travego, and the new Sprinter Travel 55 and Sprinter Travel 65 featuring a new powertrain and a host of innovations. Mercedes-Benz has enjoyed a long-running partnership with the Landau Tourist Office at the RDA Workshop. The tourist office provides the bus company with information on fascinating travel destinations and other tourist attractions in the Palatinate region.

"Safety first" is a key principle of the Mercedes-Benz Travego range. The new Safety Coach underlines this principle even before you get in the vehicle – thanks to its signal yellow paintwork and striking decor. The stylised "S" on the sides and engine flap at the rear stand for safety. For Mercedes-Benz Buses and Coaches, safety is about much more than a collection of individual components: the Safety Coach is built around an integrated safety concept. Safety is a premier brand value at Mercedes-Benz. The new Travego, for example, is equipped with the multi-award-winning Active Brake Assist system. And Active Brake Assist can save lives by actively helping to prevent rear-end collisions. The system – also known as the emergency braking system – was first implemented in 2006 in the heavy-duty truck Mercedes-Benz Actros. There are currently almost 10,000 Mercedes-Benz Actros vehicles operating with Active Brake Assist.

If there is acute danger of a collision with a slow vehicle in front, the Active Brake Assist initiates hard braking after issuing escalating warnings. If the bus comes to a standstill after the emergency stop, the hazard warning lights switch on automatically. The Active Brake Assist may not always be able to prevent accidents, but by applying the braking effect it can significantly reduce the speed of the collision and in turn the severity of the accident.

Another new feature of the Travego is the front collision guard (FCG). This is a unique passive safety system that offers effective protection to the driver and co-driver in the event of a frontal impact. The front collision guard incorporates a complex safety system that is also designed to protect other road users in the event of an accident.

Other safety features for the new Travego include cornering lights, a
rain/light sensor, long-lasting LED clearance lamps above the windscreen, and a trailing axle with independent wheel suspension for three-axle models. Travego drivers can look forward to a new-look, user-friendly cockpit. The six-cylinder in-line Mercedes-Benz OM 457 LA engine is optionally available with an output of 335 kW (456 hp). The new Mercedes GO 240-8 PowerShift automatic eight-speed transmission
is also available as an option for the Travego. Mercedes-Benz high-deck touring coaches are now more attractive than ever before.

The new generation Travego incorporates proven powertrain technology. The standard engine is still the OM 457 LA with 12.0 litre capacity, a power output of 315 kW (428 hp) and a 2100 Nm torque rating. Also available is a six-cylinder in-line Mercedes-Benz OM 457 LA with 12.0 litre capacity, an output of 335 kW (456 hp) and an impressive 2200 Nm of torque. The engine for heightened power demands is still the V8 OM 502 LA with a 15.9 litre capacity, 350 kW (476 hp) output and 2100 Nm torque. Compliance with the Euro 5 emissions standard is available for all engines.

The new Travego range remains unchanged, comprising three high-decker models: the Travego (two axles, 12.18 m length), Travego M (three axles, 13.00 m) and Travego L (three axles, 14.03 m).
