The all-new engine series of the Citaro comprise the in-line six-cylinder engines OM 936 with a displacement of 7.7 litres and the OM 470 with a displacement of 10.7 litres. Both meet Euro VI emission standards. Both also share high cost-efficiency and durability, low consumption of fuel, AdBlue and motor oil as well as long service intervals for the particulate filter. In the Citaro they are 120,000 km or two years.
In practice, the engines stand out with spontaneous response and impressive performance, paired with excellent running smoothness. The powerful torque is available already at very low engine speeds and ensures superior and economical power delivery from just above idle speed.
Thanks to the beefy power characteristics the development engineers were able to use longer final drive ratios than with the previous engines in nearly all cases. The result is a considerable reduction in both engine speed and noise levels. The shift points are in the low rev range. This results in a smooth and fuel-efficient driving style and at the same time reduces the number of gear changes that diminish comfort.
