Even today the Citaro understands how to represent modernity and innovation. Its recipe for success is simple: meet the customer’s needs. The second Citaro generation followed the first at the end of 2005/2006. Among its star qualities which won customers over from the get-go were its new axle construction and a completely reworked "face". From then until now the Citaro has maintained the kick of its development engine. And the customers are not the only ones who recognise its appeal. Journalists, independent trade experts and drivers in particular appreciate its features. That’s why it won the reader’s prize of publisher ETM’s "Commercial Vehicle of the Year" 10 times, for example. The readers of "Busfahrer" magazine voted it the "Best Bus of 2009", Dekra awarded it an environmental prize, the environmental office of the German state of Baden-Württemberg gave it the F-Cell Award and an international jury selected it as the "Bus of the Year 2007".

Recently the trade magazine Omnibusrevue wrote of the Bus Euro Test: "The Mercedes-Benz Citaro sets the bar for the rest of the sector." No other vehicle concept has made an impact on the bus market like the Citaro has. It is without a doubt the "Bus of the Decade".
